Employment Trends in Healthcare
For recruiters, winning over talent within the healthcare sector presents persistent challenges, with the environment remaining notably difficult. As staffing shortages persist, finding effective ways to attract and retain talent is an ongoing reality in this dynamic and essential industry.
Employment within the healthcare and social assistance sector experienced a modest deceleration in the fourth quarter, though overall it remains at an exceptionally elevated level. Throughout the fourth quarter of 2023, there was a collective increase of 239,800 jobs in this sector, contributing to substantial annual growth of 894,800 positions (or 4.4%) for the entire year.
In December alone, the industry witnessed a net addition of 58,900 jobs. This growth was distributed across various subsectors: Ambulatory healthcare services added 19,200 jobs, social assistance added 21,200 jobs, hospitals contributed 15,300 jobs, and nursing and residential care facilities added 3,200 jobs.
